Completed Imperfectness 완전한 미완성
This artwork contains the idea that it is impossible to make things even with a detailed diagram of its elaborate design as if the existence of languages cannot guarantee that everything is possible to be explained by language. Most of the sculptures or installations end as a completed artwork, but numerous detailed drawings or blueprints which required for producing artwork become mere assistant roles. Apart from artwork, to produce architecture, ships, tanks, furniture, machinery, we use the term, elaborate diagram. This word mostly functions as a tool for the subject to be completed. Gimhongsok completed artwork focused on elaborate diagrams to disclose the peculiar meaning of drawings or diagrams. He crumpled sheets of paper we can get easily without any specific rules. He supposed the crumpled sheets of paper as the completed state. Then he started drawing the elaborate diagrams of them to reproduce the crumpled pieces of paper with different materials. Extremely complicating diagrams were completed, but it may be asked whether the commissioner who requested to produce it can produce exactly same as the sheets of paper which Gimhongsok crumpled or not. Gimhongsok tells us that subjective object is also relative and the object with the assistant role also has equal subjectivity through the term, elaborate diagrams.
“Completeness of shape is an important step for someone, for others incompleteness and accidental transformation can be perceived as completion of shape. Architecture or machinery which is produced by copying exactly from the blueprints is usually praised by the collective public because its plan and the process are sublime. In the case of complete structures with a purpose of non-representation or plans which is impossible to assume what it is for, they are often neglected because aesthetic and emotional consensus cannot be reached by the community they belong to.
Completeness is not completion. Distortion of shape and improvised result can have difficulties to achieve social consensus, but this also cannot be criticized even though it is defined as complete completion. If someone has a car accident so that the car bumper got crushed, he/she will want to recover it to the state of original shape. This kind of mind must be human common notion about completeness and the result of social learning. Transforming the shape of the artwork well made by elaborate diagram means that there is no need to have elaborate diagram for this artwork anymore”

이 작품은 언어가 있음에도 언어로 설명할 수 없는 것이 있듯이 도면이 있어도 제작하기 불가능한 것에 대한 내용을 담고 있다. 대부분의 입체작품이나 설치작품은 완성된 결과물이 작품으로 종결되지만 이를 제작하기 위해 요구되는 수많은 도면이나 드로잉은 작품 완성을 위한 보조적 역할에 그치게 된다. 미술 작품이 아니더라도 건축물, 선박, 탱크, 가구, 기계 등을 생산하기 위해서 우리는 도면이라는 언어를 사용하는데, 이 언어는 대부분 완성될 주체를 위한 도구로써 기능한다. 김홍석은 도면, 드로잉이 갖는 특수한 의미를 보다 드러내고자 도면 중심의 작품을 완성한다. 그는 우리 주위에 흔히 구할 수 있는 종이를 구한 후 특정한 규칙 없이 구긴다. 그는 구겨진 상태가 완성된 상태라 가정한 후 구겨진 상태의 종이를 다른 재료로 재생산하기 위해 도면을 그리기 시작한다. 엄청나게 복잡한 도면이 완성되지만 제작을 의뢰 받은 어떤 이가 다시 김홍석이 구긴 종이와 똑같이 제작할 수 있는지 의문이다. 김홍석은 주체적 대상 또한 상대적이고, 보조적 역할의 대상 또한 동등한 주체성이 있음을 도면이라는 언어를 통해 이야기한다.
“형태의 완전함은 누군 가에겐 중요한 완성의 단계이지만 어떤 이에겐 불완전함과 우연적 변형이 형태의 완성으로 인식되기도 한다. 설계 도면을 그대로 복제하여 생산된 건축물이나 기계들은 그 계획과 과정이 숭고하여 공동체로부터 공동의 찬사를 받게 되지만, 다시 재현할 목적이 아니거나 추측이 불가능한 계획에 의해 완성된 구조물의 경우 소속공동체의 미적, 정서적 합의에 도달할 수 없기 때문에 소외 받기도 한다. 완전함은 완성이 아니다. 형태의 왜곡과 즉흥적 결과가 사회적 합의를 얻어내기 어려울 수도 있으나 그것 또한 완전한 완성이라고 정의한다 해서 비난 받을 일은 아니다. 만약, 어떤 이가 경미한 사고로 자신의 자동차 범퍼가 찌그러졌다면 그는 원래의 상태의 형태로 복원되기를 원한다. 이러한 마음은 완전함에 대한 인간의 통념이자 사회적 학습의 결과일 것이다. 도면에 의해 잘 만들어진 이 작품의 외형에 변형을 준다는 것은 더 이상 이 작품을 위한 도면이 필요 없음을 의미하는 것이다.”
