This video is a record of the actress Soyeon Jang’s explanation of Gimhongsok’s drawing Public Blank. Public Blank consists of manuals for eight works entitled “Solitude,” “Atonement,” “Triumph,” “Peace,” “Liberation,” “Ethics,” “Glory,” and “Meeting” as the suggestions for alternative public art that can offer happiness and comfort to individuals. Through the explanation delivered with the performer’s unique speaking habits - accents, facial expressions and gestures -, the meaning of the original work is at once marred and supplemented. This is not a typical record of specific place, time or people, but a “camera-specific” video performance. The English script by the artist is shown separately because it is different from the video performance spoken in Korean.
이 비디오는 김홍석의 드로잉 <공공의 공백>에 대한 연기자 장소연의 작품설명을 기록한 것이다. <공공의 공백>은 개인에게 행복감과 위로를 주는 대안적 공공미술을 제안하는 8개의 작품 메뉴얼로서 각각 고독, 속죄, 승리, 평화, 자유, 윤리, 영광, 만남 등의 주제를 다룬다. 설명자는 작품의 텍스트를 특유의 억양, 표정, 제스처를 가미해 자신만의 언어습관으로 전달함으로써 원작의 의미를 훼손 혹은 보충한다. 이 비디오는 특정 장소, 시간, 대중을 대상으로 펼친 퍼포먼스의 기록물이 아니라 ‘카메라 특정적’인 비디오 퍼포먼스이다. 작가의 영문 스크립트는 드로잉 <공공의 공백>이나 한국어로 진행된 연기자의 비디오 퍼포먼스와는 다른 것이므로 별도의 작품으로 전시된다.
